Nokia company was first established in 1865, the Nokia business (originally known as Nokia Oyj, or simply “Nokia“) is a multinational business that specializes in consumer electronics, information technology, and telecommunications.
The main offices of Nokia are located in Espoo, Finland, which is part of the Helsinki metropolitan area, but the Pirkanmaa region of Tampere is where the business was founded.
In 2020, Nokia hired about 92,000 people in more than 100 nations, conducted business in more than 130 nations, and generated about €23 billion in annual revenue. Over the past 150 years, the business has operated in a variety of industries.
Since the 1990s, the company has concentrated on large-scale telecommunications infrastructure, technology development, and licensing. It was originally established as a pulp mill and had long been connected to rubber and cables.
Nokia significantly influenced the creation of the GSM, 3G, and LTE standards, making contributions to the mobile telephony sector. Beginning in 1998, Nokia dominated the global market for mobile phones and tablets for a decade. However, Nokia made a number of poor managerial choices in the latter part of the 2000s, which led to a rapid decline in its market share for mobile phones. Following a collaboration with Microsoft and Nokia’s ensuing market difficulties, Microsoft purchased Nokia’s mobile phone division in 2014, renaming it Microsoft Mobile.
With the sale of its Here mapping operation and the purchase of Alcatel-Lucent, which included Bell Labs, Nokia started to concentrate more on its telecommunications infrastructure business and Internet of things technologies.
The business later tried its hand at virtual reality and digital health, the latter by purchasing Withings. Finns had a sense of national pride for the company because it was by far the biggest brand and firm from Finland on a global scale thanks to its mobile phone business.
At its height in 2000, Nokia accounted for 4% of the nation’s GDP, 21% of all exports, and 70% of the market capitalization of the Helsinki Stock Exchange. The biggest division of Nokia Corporation is Nokia Networks. Based on 2017 revenues, it is the third-largest manufacturer of telecom equipment in the world.
It is a multinational data networking and telecommunications equipment business with its headquarters in Espoo, Finland. (after Huawei and Cisco). It fights with Ericsson in the USA on the construction of 5G networks for operators, whereas ZTE Corporation and Huawei Technologies were essentially outlawed.
It operates in about 150 different nations. Operators and service providers can rely on Nokia Networks for stationary and mobile network infrastructure, communications and network service platforms, and expert services. With growing IP and multiaccess capabilities and services, it supports core networks by concentrating on GSM, EDGE, 3G/W-CDMA, LTE, and WiMAX radio access networks.
Although it is now entirely owned by Nokia, the Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) corporate identity was first introduced at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona in February 2007 as a joint venture between Nokia (50.1%) and Siemens (49.9%). For a total of $2.21 billion in July 2013, Nokia repurchased all of the stock in Nokia Siemens Networks. The company was then rebranded Nokia Solutions and Networks before being reduced to just Nokia Networks.
